“He called out, “Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water
and cool my tongue; for I am in agony in these flames.”” - Luke 16:24
“I can now tell you that when you, Tobit, and Sarah prayed, it was I who presented and read the record of your
prayer before the Glory of the Lord; and I did the same thing when you used to bury the dead.” – Tobit 12:12
Purgatory

5:26
“If the work is burned up, the builder will suffer loss; the builder will be saved, but only as through fire.”
– 1 Corinthians 3:15
“Turning to supplication, they prayed that the sinful deed might be fully blotted out. The noble Judas warned the
soldiers to keep themselves free from sin, for they had seen with their own eyes what had happened because of the sin of those
who had fallen. He then took up a collection among all his soldiers, amounting to two thousand silver drachmas, which he sent
to Jerusalem to provide for an expiatory sacrifice. In doing this he acted in a very excellent and noble way, inasmuch as
he had the resurrection of the dead in view; for if he were not expecting the fallen to rise again, it would have been useless
and foolish to pray for them in death. But if he did this with a view to the splendid reward that awaits those who had gone
to rest in godliness, it was a holy and pious thought. Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be freed from this
sin.” – 2 Maccabees 12:39-46
Confession
“Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.’

they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’” – John 20:21-23
“And all this is from God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ and given us the ministry of reconciliation”
– 1 Corinthians 5:18

the righteous is powerful and effective.” – James 5:16
Mary
“In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin
engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said,
‘Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.’”- Luke 1:26-28
“When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy
Spirit and exclaimed with a loud cry, ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And why has
this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me?” – Luke 1:41-43
“And Mary said, ‘My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with
favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;” – Luke 1:47-48
Pope
“And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not
prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven,
and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.’” – Matthew 16:18-19
“I will thrust you from your office, and you will be pulled down from your post. On that day I will call my servant
Eliakim son of Hilkiah, and will clothe him with your robe and bind your sash on him. I will commit your authority to his
hand, and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. I will place on his shoulder the
key of the house of David; he shall open, and no one shall shut; he shall shut, and no one shall open. I will fasten him like
a peg in a secure place, and he will become a throne of honor to his ancestral house.” – Isaiah 22:19-23
“Simon, Simon, listen! Satan has demanded to sift all of you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your own
faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.’” – Luke 22:31-32
“When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me more than
these?’ He said to him, ‘Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Feed my lambs.’
A second time he said to him, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me?’ He said to him, ‘Yes, Lord; you know
that I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Tend my sheep.’ He said to him the third time, ‘Simon son of
John, do you love me?’ Peter felt hurt because he said to him the third time, ‘Do you love me?’ And he said
to him, ‘Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Feed my sheep.”
– John 21:15-17
Tradition
“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his
own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” – John 16:13
“Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of (his) disciples that are not written in this book.” –

of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone.” –

in idleness and not according to the tradition that they received from us.” – 2 Thessalonians 3:6

God, the pillar and bulwark of the truth.” - 1 Timothy 3:15
Eucharist
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever;
and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.’ The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying,
‘How can this man give us his flesh to eat?’ So Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly, I tell you, unless you
eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have
eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day; for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. Those who eat
my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them. Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father,
so whoever eats me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like that which your ancestors
ate, and they died. But the one who eats this bread will live forever.’ He said these things while he was teaching in
the synagogue at Capernaum.
When many of his disciples heard it, they said, ‘This teaching is difficult; who can
accept it?’ But Jesus, being aware that his disciples were complaining about it, said to them, ‘Does this offend
you? Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh
is useless. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. But among you there are some who do not believe.’
For Jesus knew from the first who were the ones that did not believe, and who was the one that would betray him. And he said,
‘For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted by the Father.’ Because of this
many of his disciples turned back and no longer went about with him. So Jesus asked the twelve, ‘Do you also wish to
go away?’” – John 6:51-67
“They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread
and to the prayers.” – Acts 2:42
“In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do
this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.’ For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim
the Lord’s death until he comes. Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner
will be answerable for the body and blood of the Lord. Examine yourselves, and only then eat of the bread and drink of the
cup. For all who eat and drink without discerning the body, eat and drink judgment against themselves.” – 1 Corinthians
11:25-29
Baptism
“Jesus answered, ‘Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born
of water and Spirit.” – John 3:5
“Peter said to them, ‘Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins
may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” – Acts 2:38
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of
the Holy Spirit” – Matthew 28:19
Faith and works
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but
only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” - Matthew 7:21
“I tell you, on the day of judgment you will have to give an account for every careless word you utter; For by
your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” - Matthew 12:36,37
“And will come out--those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the
resurrection of condemnation.” - John 5:29
“For he will repay according to each one’s deeds. To those who by patiently doing good seek for glory and
honor and immortality, he will give eternal life;” - Romans 2:6,7
“For all of us must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may receive recompense for what has
been done in the body, whether good or evil.” - 2 Corinthians 5:10
“If you invoke as Father the one who judges all people impartially according to their deeds...” - 1 Peter
1:17
“I will also put her children to death. Thus shall all the churches come to know that I am the searcher of hearts
and minds and that I will give each of you what your works deserve.” - Revelation 2:23
“I saw the dead, the great and the lowly, standing before the throne, and scrolls were opened. Then another scroll
was opened, the book of life. The dead were judged according to their deeds, by what was written in the scrolls.” -
Revelation 20:12
“See, I am coming soon; my reward is with me, to repay according to everyone's work.” - Revelation 22:12
“Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil
and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, a stranger and you gave
me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.' Then they will answer and
say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?'
He will answer them, 'Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.' And these
will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."” - Matthew 25:41-46
“What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If
a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, keep warm,
and eat well," but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does
not have works, is dead. Indeed someone might say, "You have faith and I have works." Demonstrate your faith to me without
works, and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works. You believe that God is one. You do well. Even the demons believe
that and tremble. Do you want proof, you ignoramus, that faith without works is useless? Was not Abraham our father justified
by works when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar? You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed
by the works. Thus the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,"
and he was called "the friend of God." See how a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. And in the same way,
was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she welcomed the messengers and sent them out by a different route?
For just as a body without a spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.” - James 2:14-26
Mortal Sins
“If you see your brother or sister committing what is not a mortal sin, you will ask, and God will
give life to such a one—to those whose sin is not mortal. There is sin that is mortal; I do not say that you should
pray about that. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that is not mortal.” – 1 John 5:16-17
